Cuddling down in the soft warmth of a clean and cozy bed at the end of a hard day has got to be one of life’s great pleasures. Our favorite kind of bedding isn’t called a comforter for nothing and, thankfully, there are loads of types of so each and every one of us can get a perfect bedtime snuggle.
When you first decide to buy a comforter the number of different types can seem bewildering. What’s the difference between down and synthetic fibers? Which will wear the best? Which are most comfortable, or warmest, or lightest. Help! What do I want?
Take it one step at a time and answer a few personal questions to start sorting the down from the fibers. If you have severe dust allergies, rule out 100% down and look at the other. Some types are in fact machine washable; however, it’s not advisable to wash them too often. Be sure to use a quality cover, changing it often, and your comforter will stay clean and fresh without the need for constant washing.
Some types are available in dual-weight versions, and may be used either as doubles in winter or singles in the summer months.
If you one of those who suffers from asthma or allergies, you can probably benefit from using types that are hypoallergenic, or that are filled with synthetic materials instead of natural down.

Down Sets: Natural feather down fillings are probably near the top of the popularity list when it comes to sought-after varieties. Down is very insulating, lightweight, and comes in a wide variety of mixed with feathers. The more down to feathers the more luxurious and soft the comforter.
Down Alternative: Ideal for people suffering from allergies, down alternative types have several different fillings. Ranging from the purely synthetic to all-natural silk, it’s largely a matter of personal taste as to which suits you best.
Kids Sets: You can give your child a special treat with a selection of her or his favorite film and fiction characters. From dancing Disney Princesses to high jinks on the oceans with those Pirates of the Caribbean, they’ll never be short of a bedtime adventure.
